Sure, there are tons of ways that you can fix scratched sunglass lenses, but can you replace sunglass lenses? After all, who cares if you can buff out the dings and dents if you can’t get the lenses back in after?
Thankfully, it’s pretty easy to put sunglass replacement lenses in. Here’s a quick tutorial how.
Get Replacement Lenses.
First things first, you have to get a pair of replacement lenses. Unless you want to spend unnecessary amounts of money, don’t bother with name brands, like Ray Ban replacement lenses. There are several, more affordable alternatives that you can easily find all over the place. In fact, you also have the option of buying polarized replacement lenses, which will upgrade your shades so that they can effectively block out glare.
Take the Old Lenses Out.
Before you can put your replacement lenses in, you have to take the old lenses out, because chances are only one fell out when you broke them. So, get a bowl of warm water, and let your sunglasses soak for about five minutes. Don’t make it piping hot, but do make it pretty warm. This makes the plastic or metal more malleable, since each material expands under heat. Once you’ve let them soak for about a minute, take them out and carefully bend and twist the frames until the other lens pops out.
Put the New Lenses In.
At last, it’s time to put your new lenses in. If your frames have cooled down, reheat them in the water. The more malleable they are, the easier it’ll be. Once you’ve done that, put the replacements in starting at the bottom, and then working all the way around the frames. Check to make sure the lenses won’t fall out by pressing gently on their centers.
And that’s that! Now you’re free to enjoy you’re newly repaired shades. If you have any questions about how to fix broken sunglasses, feel free to ask in the comments. More.
